 The third volume of Soul & Funk from the great Mirage back catalogue is packed
with 15 tracks from back in the day, the great sound of the ‘80’s again full of
12” mixes, remixes and extended tracks for your enjoyment.
For the first track we have the Jason Bryant produced First Love and Can I Be With You Tonight, then all 6 minutes 39 seconds of Brenda K. Starr’s Pickin Up Pieces, produced by Arthur Baker. Next up is The System with Pleasure Seekers (12” Version) produced and written by Mic Murphy and David Frank, mixed by Tom Lord-Alge. Then comes The Spinners and Show Me Your Magic produced by Maurice Starr followed by a Sandy Linzer production of T.S. Monk with Too Much Too Soon. The 12” mix (5:51) of Blue Magic’s See Through comes next written and produced by Butch Ingram, then straight into the Taka Boom track Climate For Love mixed by Tom Lord-Alge and produced by Billy Rush. Track 8 is The Spinners with She Does which was remixed by Patrick Adams and produced by Ashley Irwin followed by Hypnotize from Terri Jones another track produced by Patrick Adams. Another big track from Ingram, Smoothin Groovin written by James Ingram and produced by the Ingram Family comes before a rare Mirage hip-hop track from The Incredible Body Mechanix (featuring Omega Clash MCs) and B-Boy Your Best (12″ version) produced by Craig Peyton and Nelson Cruz. Back to Mic Murphy and David Frank with The System’s 12″ Vocal Remix of I Don’t Run From Danger, with help from Chris Lord-Alge in mixing, after this the 12” Version of Gail Freeman and Mr. Right produced by Richie Weeks and Danny Weiss. Track 14 brings the extended version of Jean Knight’s My Toot Toot produced by Isaac Bolden, we finish off with the extremely popular hip-hop track Break Dance Party from Break Machine (6:32) produced by Jacques Morali.

 In June 1980, JERRY and BOB GREENBERG then from Atlantic Records
decided to start up their own label and MIRAGE MUSIC was born. The label
signed bands and individual artists from across many genre’s and was very
prominent from it’s inception until the late 80’s when JERRY moved on and
was named MGM/United Artists president. The label has now been reactivated
(2003/04) as MIRAGE MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT and opened offices in
Jamaica and Las Vegas and installed Stacey Greenberg as general manager.

The opening track is the vocal/long version of This Is For You by The System (1985 Pleasure Seekers) written and produced by Mic Murphy and David Franks, this version mixed by Tom Lord- Alge. Then we have Antony Franklin’s Hot Number (Vocal 12” Mix) written and produced by Jolyon Skinner and Keith Diamond (1983). Up next is Fonzi Thornton with I Work For A Livin’ (Soup For One 1982) written and produced by Jolyon Skinner and Keith Diamond, then we move on to Roz Ryan, Boy Where Have You Been (1983) long vocal version, written by Terry Price and produced by Butch Ingram. Track 5 brings T.S. Monk and Fantasy (1982 Human) written by James Calloway, Leroy Burgess, Sonny Davenport and produced by Eric Mercury. Ingram follow with D.J.’S Delight (1983 Would You Like To Fly) written by James Ingram and produced by Ingram, next we have First Love and Things Are Not The Same (Without You) (1985) vocal long version written by Jason Bryant, Sonia Rossman, Sheila Tyson and produced by Jason Bryant. After this is Carl Weathers with You Ought To Be With Me (1981) written by Carl Weathers and D.J. Emile and produced by Hadley D. Murrell, then Nile Rodgers, Yum Yum (1983 Adventures In The Land Of The Good Groove) written and produced by Nile Rodgers. Number 10 is the Vocal 12” of Carly Simon’s Why (1982 Soup For One) written and produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, the Long 12” Version of M-Zee Band – Bop Box (1981 Doctor Rhythm) written by Michael Zager, Jolyon Skinner and produced by Michael Zager is followed by Stroke and You Are The One (Tony Humphries Mix)(1985 Stroke) written by Terry Price, Jerry Cohen, Alfonso Smith and produced by Terry Price. The final track comes from The Future with Nuclear Holocaust (1984) this is the 12” Version written and produced by Michael Johnson and Rodney Ford.

extended version’s alongside club mixes, dub mixes, mega-rare 12 inch version’s
and a 2009 new sound edit from the great Paul Simpson.
For openers we have the club mix of Magic Number by Blue Magic (1983-Magic #) written by Ted (WIZARD) Mills & Darnell Jordan and produced by Butch Ingram, next is Paul Simpson’s Best Looking Sound Edit of the T.S. Monk track Bon Bon Vie
(1981-House Of Music) written by Sandy Linzer & L. Russell Brown and produced
by Sandy Linzer, after this comes The System’s You Are In My System (Bilingual Dub Mix) written and produced by Mic Murphy and David Frank (1983-Sweat). From here we move on to Ingram’s When You’re Hot You’re Hot (Dub Version) written by John Ingram and produced by Family Productions (1984-Night Stalkers), then it’s Stroke’s Tell Me written and produced by Terry Price (1986-Stroke). Track 6 is the rare Carl Weathers tune That’s Love Calling written by H. Murrell, R. Jackson, C. Weathers, D.J. Emile and produced by Hadley D. Murrell (1982-Soup For One), again another rare title the Mary Love track Save Me written by D. Flett & M.G. Fletcher and produced by Eddie Martinez (Vocal Club Mix-1982-Soup For One).
